• Vijayakanth and Mohan were cast together for the first time in 'Vengaiyin Maindhan' (1984) because the director, R. Thyagarajan, wanted a raw action hero and a polished romantic lead to clash on screen. He reportedly told both actors: 'You two are fire and ice — let's see who melts first.'
• In 'Nooravathu Naal' (1984), Mohan played a soft-spoken journalist while Vijayakanth was a volatile cop. Mohan later said in an interview that Vijayakanth would deliberately raise his voice during rehearsals to throw him off, forcing Mohan to find a quieter, more intense counter-rhythm — and that's what made their interrogation scenes crackle.
• During the shoot of '24 Mani Neram' (1984), Vijayakanth and Mohan shared a room in a small lodge in Kodaikanal because the budget was too tight for separate rooms. Mohan later recalled that Vijayakanth would wake him up at 5 a.m. to practice fight sequences in the hallway, and Mohan would retaliate by playing Ilaiyaraaja songs at full volume while Vijayakanth tried to sleep.
• Mohan once said about Vijayakanth: 'He was the only co-star who could make me forget my lines — not because he was intimidating, but because he'd suddenly throw in a new dialogue on set and dare me to keep up. I loved that madness.'
• The success of 'Nooravathu Naal' (1984) directly led to director K. Bhagyaraj casting both actors in his next project — but Bhagyaraj ended up scrapping the idea after seeing how differently their fan bases reacted. That unmade film would have been the first Tamil movie to feature two male leads with equal screen time in a non-comedy thriller.
