• Kunal and Sonali first met on the sets of Kadhalar Dhinam (1999). Director Kathir cast them as a fresh pair because he wanted two newcomers who looked like they were discovering love for the first time — no star baggage, just awkward realness.
• In Premikula Roju (1999), Kunal’s natural comic timing pushed Sonali to match his energy in the lighter scenes. She later admitted in an interview that she had to unlearn her theatre-style delivery because Kunal kept breaking her rhythm with spontaneous pauses — and that made their banter feel real.
• During the shoot of Dil Hi Dil Mein (2000), Kunal and Sonali developed a running joke: every time a scene required them to cry, they’d first make each other laugh by doing a silly dance from a 80s Hindi film. The crew would wait five minutes before rolling.
