• Nizhalgal Ravi was already a known face when he was cast opposite newcomer Amala in Panneer Nadhigal (1986). The director, K. Rangaraj, specifically wanted a fresh pairing — Ravi’s brooding intensity was meant to offset Amala’s innocence. That film became her launchpad.
• In Jeeva (1988), Ravi played a violent, conflicted man while Amala played his love interest. The film’s emotional core relied on Amala’s calm reactions grounding Ravi’s explosive scenes. She later said in an interview that Ravi would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to let her catch up — he set the rhythm so she could breathe on screen.
• During the shoot of Vaasalile Oru Vennila (1991), Ravi and Amala developed a close off-screen friendship. They would rehearse scenes together at a small café near the set in Kodambakkam. After the film wrapped, they drifted apart — Amala moved to Malayalam cinema, and they never worked together again.
• Amala once said about Ravi: 'He never treated me like a newcomer. He’d say, 'You don’t have to act — just react to me.' That’s how I learned to be natural.' She said this in a 1990 interview with a Tamil weekly.
• Panneer Nadhigal (1986) was the film that introduced Amala to Tamil audiences. Its success directly led to her being cast in major hits like Mouna Ragam (1986) and Sathya (1988). Without that first pairing with Ravi, her entire Tamil career might have looked different.
