Partnership facts

• Kamal Haasan was just 21 when he starred opposite K. R. Vijaya in Aayirathil Oruthi (1975). She was already a major star. He later said working with her taught him how to hold his own in a scene without trying to steal it.
• In Naam Pirandha Mann (1977), Vijaya played a fiery village woman while Kamal played a hot-headed young man. The director said their scenes worked because Vijaya would slow down her dialogue delivery, forcing Kamal to match her rhythm instead of rushing through his lines.
• By the time they made Per Sollum Pillai (1987), Kamal was a superstar and Vijaya had stepped back from lead roles. She agreed to play his mother in that film — a full circle from playing his love interest 12 years earlier. They stayed in touch after, but never worked together again.
• K. R. Vijaya once said in an interview: 'Kamal was like a younger brother to me on set. He would ask me for feedback after every take. I told him once — stop trying to act, just react. He never forgot that.'
