• Rahman was a newcomer when director K. Rajeshwar cast him opposite Charlie in Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal (1989). Charlie, already a known face, reportedly pushed for Rahman to get the role after seeing his screen test.
• In Sangamam (1999), Charlie’s raw, earthy energy as a village tough guy forced Rahman to dial down his usual polished intensity. Rahman later said Charlie’s unpredictability made him react more instinctively in every scene.
