Jayachitra is an Indian actress born on 5 September 1957 in Chennai, who has worked primarily in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, becoming one of the prominent leading ladies of South Indian films from the 1970s through the 1990s. She appeared opposite Rajinikanth in the Tamil film Sadhurangam (1978), starred in the Telugu film Mama Alludu (1990) directed by Dasari Narayana Rao, and appeared in Pattampoochi (2022), with her career spanning over 200 films. She was a child artist from age six, was launched as a heroine by director K.S. Gopalakrishnan in Korathi Magan (1972), and received the Tamil Nadu state government's Kalaimamani Award for her contributions to cinema. After transitioning from acting, she produced, directed, and acted in the Tamil television serial Sumangali, which became a major hit and led to further serials including Alaigal and Sivaranjini (2005).
