• They first met on the sets of 'Saranalayam' (1983). Nalini was already a known face, but Chandran was a stage actor making his early film move. The director paired them specifically because he wanted a contrast — her softness against his raw, nervous energy.
• In 'Uyirullavarai Usha' (1983), Chandran kept flubbing a key emotional scene. Nalini quietly told him to stop acting and just look at her like she was the only person in the room. He did it in one take. That became the scene audiences still talk about.
• During the shoot of 'Engal Kural' (1985), Nalini would bring Chandran homemade snacks because he kept skipping lunch. He later admitted in a small interview that she was the only co-star who ever checked if he had eaten.
• Their third film together, 'Engal Kural' (1985), was the first Tamil film to feature a fully orchestrated background score by a then-unknown composer. That composer? Ilaiyaraaja. The duo's emotional scenes gave him the canvas to experiment — and it launched his signature style.
• Chandran once said about Nalini: 'She didn't act with me. She acted for me. That's why our scenes felt real.' He said this in a 1986 radio interview, years after their last film together.
