• Ravikumar was a dialogue writer for Rajinikanth's earlier films. Rajini personally asked him to direct Muthu (1995) after being impressed by his writing. That film became their first collaboration.
• On the sets of Padayappa (1999), Rajini would often improvise his lines. Ravikumar let him run with it, then quietly edited the scene to make the improvisation land harder. That's why Rajini's one-liners in that film feel so natural.
• Muthu (1995) became a massive hit in Japan — it was the first Indian film to gross over $1.6 million there. That success directly led to Rajini's cult following in Japan, and Ravikumar was the director who made it happen.
• Ravikumar has said that Rajini never once shouted at him or argued on set across all three films. They had a rule: if they disagreed, they'd take a break and talk it out over coffee. Never a raised voice.
• Ravikumar once said: 'Rajini sir doesn't need a director. He needs someone to catch what he throws. I just held the net.'
• For Lingaa (2014), Ravikumar wrote a dual role specifically to showcase Rajini's range — one character was a young, energetic thief, the other an old, dignified man. Rajini later admitted the old man role was the hardest he'd ever played, and Ravikumar pushed him to get it right.
