Jayabharathi (born Lakshmi Bharathi, 28 June 1954, Erode) is a veteran actress who appeared in over 350 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, primarily known as one of Malayalam cinema's leading actresses of the 1970s and 1980s. She won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress twice, the Filmfare Award South for Best Actress (Malayalam) for Vadakakkoru Hridayam (1979), and the National Award Special Jury Prize for her role as Janaki in the Tamil film Marupakkam (1990). Her Tamil filmography spans from Naan Avanillai (1974) through Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990) and Muthu (1995), demonstrating her versatility across comedy, drama, and family genres alongside stars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. After retiring from acting around 2002, she established Aswathi Arts Academy, a dance school she runs from her home.
