• Director A. P. Nagarajan cast Sivakumar as the young sage Agathiyar in the 1972 film 'Agathiyar' — but only after Sirkazhi Govindarajan, who played the older sage, personally insisted that Sivakumar was the right fit. Govindarajan had seen Sivakumar's work in 'Thirumalai Thenkumari' and told Nagarajan, 'He has the eyes for a rishi.'
• In 'Agathiyar' (1972), Sirkazhi Govindarajan sang all his own lines as the sage — but Sivakumar, playing the younger version, lip-synced to a playback singer. Govindarajan would stand off-camera during Sivakumar's takes, mouthing the words to help him match the rhythm. Sivakumar later said that Govindarajan's live humming on set made his performance feel 'like a duet, not a solo.'
• Their third film together, 'Thirumalai Dheivam' (1973), was the first Tamil film to feature a full-length animated sequence — a 10-minute segment depicting the churning of the ocean. The animation was done by a small Chennai studio that later became the foundation for the city's early digital animation industry.
• Sivakumar and Sirkazhi Govindarajan shared a ritual on every shoot: before the first take of the day, Govindarajan would sing a short verse from the Thiruppugazh, and Sivakumar would touch his feet. This happened even on the sets of 'Thirumalai Thenkumari' (1970), their first film together, when Sivakumar was already a rising star and Govindarajan was a veteran.
