• Sivakumar and Sulakshana first worked together in 'Amma Irukka' (1984), but the real spark came when director K. Balachander cast them as the lead pair in 'Sindhu Bhairavi' (1985). Balachander specifically wanted a fresh, non-glamorous pairing to sell the film's intense emotional conflict — and he got it.
• In 'Sindhu Bhairavi', Sivakumar played a married classical musician torn between his wife and a younger woman. Sulakshana played the wife with a quiet, simmering restraint — and Sivakumar later admitted that her controlled performance forced him to dial down his own histrionics, making their scenes together feel painfully real.
• Sivakumar and Sulakshana never became close friends off-screen. They were strictly professional — no shared meals, no phone calls between films. But on set, they had a silent understanding: no small talk before a heavy scene. They'd just nod, shoot, and walk away.
• Their pairing in 'Sindhu Bhairavi' directly inspired the 1990 film 'Nee Sirithal Deepavali' — their fourth and final collaboration. The director wanted to recreate the same mature, melancholic chemistry, but this time in a lighter, family-comedy setting. It didn't click the same way.
• Sivakumar once said about Sulakshana: 'She doesn't act. She just becomes the character. I had to work twice as hard to keep up with her silence.' He said this in a 1986 interview with a Tamil weekly, recalling the 'Sindhu Bhairavi' shoot.
