• They first met on the set of Hulchul (1995), but neither was the first choice. The director initially wanted two bigger stars. Sunil and Akshaye were both relative newcomers, and the producer took a gamble pairing them because they came cheap.
• In Border (1997), Sunil played the loud, emotional soldier while Akshaye played the quiet, intense one. They never shared a single dialogue scene together in the film, but their contrasting energies in separate sequences made the ensemble click. The director later said he deliberately kept them apart to avoid clashing styles.
• During the shoot of LOC Kargil (2003), both actors stayed in the same tent in Ladakh for two months. Sunil later revealed that Akshaye would wake him up at 4 AM every day to rehearse lines in the freezing cold, and they developed a ritual of sharing one cup of chai before every take.
• Akshaye Khanna once said in an interview: 'Sunil is the only co-star who can make me laugh so hard that I forget my lines. We ruined at least three takes on Shaadi Se Pehle because he kept doing that thing with his eyebrows.'
• Their pairing in No Problem (2010) was the last time they worked together. The film bombed so badly that both actors publicly blamed each other's comic timing in separate press conferences. They haven't spoken since. That feud indirectly led to Akshaye taking a 7-year break from films.
• In Aap Ki Khatir (2006), Sunil played a goofy sidekick while Akshaye played the romantic lead. Sunil improvised a scene where he pretended to cry on Akshaye's shoulder — and Akshaye, without breaking character, wiped his own tears with Sunil's shirt. That moment was entirely unscripted and became the film's most talked-about scene.
