Border is a 1997 Indian Hindi-language epic war film written, produced, and directed by J. P. Dutta. The ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Puneet Issar, Sudesh Berry, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the film dramatizes the Battle of Longewala, where 120 Indian soldiers defended a remote desert post against a Pakistani brigade of 3000 troops and 40 tanks. The narrative follows Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri as he leads his men through a night of intense combat, waiting for air support at dawn. The film was shot in Bikaner and Jodhpur, Rajasthan, with support from the Indian Army and Air Force. It was declared an All Time Blockbuster by Box Office India and became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 1997. Border received three National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film on National Integration, and four Filmfare Awards. The soundtrack, featuring the iconic song "Sandese Aate Hai," became one of the best-selling albums of the year. The film was released on 13 June 1997.
