• Shashilal K. Nair cast Jackie Shroff in Falak (1988) after seeing his raw energy in Hero — but the film's producer wanted a bigger name. Nair fought to keep Jackie, saying the role needed 'a street-smart guy, not a polished star.'
• On the sets of Angaar (1992), Nair realized Jackie was terrible at delivering rehearsed dialogue. So he started giving him only the scene's intent and let him improvise lines. Jackie's raw, unpolished outbursts became the film's most intense moments.
• After Falak flopped, Nair told Jackie he'd never work with him again. But Jackie showed up unannounced at Nair's office a year later with a bottle of whiskey and said, 'Let's make a film that shuts everyone up.' That film was Angaar.
