• Mahesh Bhatt cast Jackie Shroff in 'Kaash' (1987) after seeing his raw energy in 'Hero' — but Jackie almost walked off set on day one because he couldn't understand Bhatt's abstract direction. Bhatt told him, 'Just be a tree in the wind.' Jackie stayed.
• On 'Milan' (1995), Bhatt deliberately shot Jackie's scenes in long, unbroken takes — forcing him to drop his usual stylized swagger and react in real time. Jackie later said Bhatt was the only director who made him 'forget the camera was there.'
