• Rati Agnihotri was the bigger star when they first worked together in Mashaal (1984). Anil Kapoor was still finding his footing. Director Yash Chopra paired them specifically because he wanted a fresh, vulnerable energy opposite Rati's established grace.
• In Mashaal, Anil played a hot-headed street kid and Rati played his gentle love interest. Their scenes worked because Rati deliberately softened her delivery to make Anil's rawness pop — she later said she 'let him take the lead' even though she had more experience.
