Trivia
- The film was inspired by the 1961 Marathi movie 'Oon Paoos' and the 1973 Hindi film 'Koshish', both dealing with social issues.
- Dilip Kumar, who played the lead, was 62 years old during filming but portrayed a much younger character initially.
- This was the only film where Yash Chopra directed Dilip Kumar, despite both being legends in the industry.
- The song 'Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon' was filmed at night in Mumbai's real, busy streets, not a set.
- Anil Kapoor, who played a supporting role, had his salary reportedly donated to charity by the film's producers.
- The movie underperformed at the box office, which was a rare commercial setback for Yash Chopra in the 1980s.
- It features one of the earliest uses of a newspaper montage sequence to show the passage of time in Hindi cinema.
