Partnership facts

• For Endrum Anbudan (1992), director K. S. Ravikumar cast Sithara and Manorama as mother and daughter — but Manorama was only 14 years older than Sithara in real life. The age gap was so tight that Manorama had to wear heavy makeup and a grey wig to look convincingly like Sithara's mother.
• In Thirunelveli (2000), Manorama deliberately slowed down her comic timing to match Sithara's rhythm. Sithara later said Manorama would whisper 'wait for my pause' before delivering punchlines — a trick that made their banter feel natural instead of rushed.
• During the shoot of Natpukkaga (1998), Manorama would cook Sithara's favourite kootu at her home and bring it to the set in a steel tiffin box. Sithara has said in interviews that Manorama treated her like a real daughter, not a co-star.
• Sithara once said about Manorama: 'She taught me that comedy is not about making people laugh — it's about making them feel the pain behind the laugh.' She said this in a 2015 interview recalling their work on Endrum Anbudan.
• The mother-daughter dynamic they created in Endrum Anbudan was so well-received that director K. S. Ravikumar reused the same pairing formula in his later hit Avvai Shanmugi (1996) — but with Kamal Haasan and Manorama instead.
