• Sathyaraj was the one who insisted Abbas be cast as the second lead in Suyamvaram (1999). The director wanted a younger face, but Sathyaraj pushed for Abbas because he felt their height difference would make the comedy scenes pop.
• In Malabar Police (1999), Sathyaraj deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in every scene with Abbas. He told the director that Abbas's fast, urban cadence needed a contrasting rhythm — so he played the straight, slow-burn foil to make Abbas's energy land harder.
• During the shoot of Adi Thadi (2004), Abbas would drive Sathyaraj home every night after pack-up. Sathyaraj's car had broken down, and Abbas refused to let him take an auto — this went on for three weeks until the film wrapped.
• The success of their double-act in Suyamvaram directly led to director K. S. Ravikumar casting them again in Vanakkam Thalaiva (2005). That film's climax scene — where both actors trade insults in a single unbroken shot — became a template for buddy-comedy face-offs in Tamil cinema for the next decade.
• Abbas once said in a 2006 interview: 'Sathyaraj sir taught me that comedy is not about making people laugh — it's about making them wait for the laugh. I learned that standing next to him.'
• In Vanakkam Thalaiva (2005), Sathyaraj improvised a scene where he slaps Abbas's character mid-sentence. Abbas didn't flinch — he stayed in character and completed the line. The director kept the take because Abbas's reaction made Sathyaraj's slap look even more brutal.
