• Muthuraman cast Sreekanth in Kasiyatthirai (1973) after seeing him in a stage play. Sreekanth was a theatre actor with zero film experience. Muthuraman took a risk that paid off.
• On the sets of Vazhndhu Kaattukiren (1975), Muthuraman let Sreekanth rewrite his own dialogues. Sreekanth’s natural, conversational style became the film’s signature. The director later said he learned to trust actors from that experience.
• Pennai Cholli Kuttramillai (1977) was the first Tamil film to feature a female police officer as the lead. Sreekanth played the cop. Muthuraman pushed for the role after reading a real-life case file. That character inspired a wave of women-in-uniform roles in Tamil cinema through the 1980s.
• Muthuraman and Sreekanth never worked together after 1977. No fallout — just drifted apart. Sreekanth later said in a 1990 interview that Muthuraman was the only director who let him act without instructions.
