• Suriya and Sriman first met on the set of 'Friends' (2001) because the director Siddique wanted two actors who looked like they could actually be buddies from college. Neither had worked together before, and they were thrown into a film that relied entirely on their natural camaraderie.
• In 'Aaytha Ezhuthu' (2004), Suriya played the hot-headed student leader and Sriman played his loyal friend. Mani Ratnam deliberately shot their scenes in long, unbroken takes so their real-life comfort with each other would sell the tension and loyalty without cuts.
• After 'Shree' (2002) flopped hard, Sriman later admitted in an interview that he and Suriya sat together at a tea stall near the theatre and laughed about the disaster. They decided then that they'd only work together again if the script was solid — which is why they skipped 11 years before 'Massu Engira Masilamani' (2015).
• Sriman once said in a 2015 interview: 'Suriya is the only co-star who calls me before every film he signs, just to ask if I'm free. He doesn't need to. He just does it.'
