• Vijayakanth was already a star when Manobala, then a struggling director, approached him for 'Sirai Paravai' (1987). Manobala later admitted he was terrified to narrate the script — but Vijayakanth heard him out in a single sitting and said yes on the spot.
• On the set of 'En Purushan Than Enakku Mattundhan' (1989), Manobala realized Vijayakanth was a natural comedian — so he rewrote several scenes to let him improvise. The film's biggest laughs came from lines Vijayakanth ad-libbed during takes.
• Manobala and Vijayakanth stayed close even after their films ended. When Manobala fell into financial trouble in the early 2000s, Vijayakanth quietly paid off his debts without telling anyone — Manobala only found out years later from a mutual friend.
