• Padmini was a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. During Kuzhandaikaga shoot, Madhavan would ask her to choreograph the children's dance sequences for free. She never charged extra. He later said she treated his film like her own project.
• P. Madhavan once said in an interview: 'Padmini didn't need a director. She needed someone to give her space. I just gave her that.' He was talking about how she took over the emotional scenes in Vietnam Veedu without any rehearsal.
• P. Madhavan was a rising director when he cast Padmini in Kuzhandaikaga (1968). But here's the twist: Padmini was already a huge star in Malayalam and Tamil. Madhavan was nervous directing her. She told him on day one: 'Just tell me what you want. I'll do it.' That broke the ice.
• In Vietnam Veedu (1970), Padmini played a woman pretending to be a ghost. Madhavan wrote the role specifically so she could show her comic timing — something her earlier mythological films never let her do. She improvised half the ghost's mannerisms on set.
• Thenum Paalum (1971) was the first Tamil film where Padmini played a mother to a grown-up child. She was only 39. Madhavan insisted on casting her against type. That film opened the door for her to play mature roles in the 1970s — something she later credited to him.
