• Manorama was already a star when Disco Shanti was a newcomer. Director R. Sundarrajan paired them in 'Vellai Manasu' (1985) specifically to let Shanti learn comic timing from Manorama on set. Shanti later said she was terrified of Manorama for the first three days.
• In 'Pattukku Naan Adimai' (1990), Manorama would deliberately flub her lines to make Disco Shanti break character mid-scene. Shanti would then retaliate by improvising nonsense dialogues. The director kept the cameras rolling because the genuine laughter worked better than the script.
• After 'Muthu Kaalai' (1995) bombed hard, Manorama called Disco Shanti and said, 'We should stop making films together before we kill each other's careers.' They never worked together again. But they remained friends — Manorama even attended Shanti's son's wedding in 2010.
• Disco Shanti once told a magazine: 'Manorama would pinch me so hard before a comedy scene that my tears were real. She said pain makes the punchline land better. I still have a bruise from 'Pongi Varum Kaveri' (1989).'
• Their double-act in 'Pattukku Naan Adimai' (1990) directly inspired the 'comedy pair' trend in Tamil cinema — before this, female comedians mostly played solo roles. After this film, producers started demanding two-woman comedy tracks in masala movies.
