Partnership facts

• Vidhya was a last-minute replacement in Ezhumalai (2002). The original heroine walked out days before shooting. Arjun personally called Vidhya and asked her to step in. She said yes without reading the script.
• On the sets of Manikanda (2007), Arjun would deliberately mess up his lines in the first take. He told Vidhya it was to keep her on her toes. She'd then improvise her reactions, and he'd match her energy in the next take. That raw, unpolished back-and-forth became the film's emotional core.
• Vidhya and Arjun had a standing ritual during all three films: after the final shot of every schedule, they'd share a single cup of filter coffee from the same stall near the set. No one else was invited. They kept it up even when the shoot ran past midnight.
• Vallakottai (2010) was the first Tamil film where the heroine's character had a full-fledged fight sequence choreographed by a woman stunt director. Vidhya insisted on it. Arjun backed her demand with the producer. That sequence later inspired a similar scene in a 2012 Nayanthara film.
• Arjun once said in a 2010 interview: 'Vidhya is the only co-star who made me forget my lines. Not because she distracted me — because she made the scene so real, I stopped acting.'
