• Their first film together, Gangai Karai Paattu (1995), almost didn't happen. The director wanted a different heroine for Mansoor Ali Khan, but Kovai Sarala walked into the audition unannounced and cracked a joke that made the entire crew laugh. Mansoor insisted she stay.
• In Vasantha Vaasal (1996), Mansoor Ali Khan would deliberately flub his lines to make Kovai Sarala break character. She'd then improvise a comeback that became the actual dialogue in the final cut. The director kept the camera rolling because he knew the real magic was in her reactions.
