Partnership facts

  • Koti was already a big name in music when E.V.V. Satyanarayana approached him for Maa Nannaki Pelli (1997). But the director had a condition: he wanted Koti to compose tunes that felt like folk songs, not film numbers. Koti agreed only after Satyanarayana sang him a rough tune on the spot — and that became the film's title track.
  • On Kanyadanam (1998), Satyanarayana would give Koti just a one-line scene description — no lyrics, no situation. Koti would then compose a rough melody, and only after that would the lyricist write words to fit. This reverse workflow became their signature for all three films.
  • The song 'Chinnari Pata' from Pilla Nachindi (1999) was later directly sampled by a popular DJ for a 2010s Telugu club remix — without credit. Koti publicly called it out, but Satyanarayana told him to let it go. That remix still plays at weddings in coastal Andhra.
  • During the shoot of Maa Nannaki Pelli, Satyanarayana and Koti shared a room in a small Rajahmundry lodge for 45 days. Koti would wake up at 4 AM to practice on a harmonium, and Satyanarayana would make tea for both of them before anyone else arrived on set. They never did that with any other collaborator.
  • Koti once said in a 2005 interview: 'E.V.V. never told me what he wanted. He just said, “Koti, make me cry with your tune.” That’s all. For Pilla Nachindi, I locked myself in a room for three days. He didn’t call once. He knew I’d deliver.'
