Partnership facts

• Singampuli and Karunakaran first teamed up because Singampuli was desperate for a co-star who could match his deadpan absurdity in 'Hello Naan Pei Pesuren' (2016). Karunakaran was the only actor who didn't ask for a script change — he just said 'enna venum na pannu' (do whatever you want).
• In 'Jeyikkira Kuthira' (2017), Singampuli wrote the dialogue on set and handed it to Karunakaran line by line. Karunakaran would read it once, then deliver it with a completely different rhythm — and Singampuli kept the take. That became their working style: one writes, the other rewrites with his voice.
• Their 2019 hit 'Dharma Prabhu' directly inspired a wave of small-town buddy comedies in Tamil OTT space. Two years later, at least three web series on Zee5 and Aha tried to copy the 'two idiots, one mission' template that Singampuli and Karunakaran perfected here.
• During the shoot of 'Pani Kutty' (2019), Singampuli and Karunakaran shared a room in a lodge near Pollachi for 45 days. They didn't speak Tamil to each other after 10 PM — they'd switch to English and argue about old Rajinikanth films. The lodge owner thought they were brothers.
• Karunakaran once said in a 2022 interview: 'Singampuli is the only director who lets me fail on screen. He doesn't cut. He lets me stammer, pause, look stupid — then he uses that take. No other director has that patience.'
• In 'Panni Kutty' (2022), Singampuli deliberately gave Karunakaran the longer, more exhausting monologues first — then shot his own scenes after Karunakaran was drained. He said it made Karunakaran's exhaustion look real on screen. Karunakaran didn't know this until the film released.
