• Charle was a popular TV face before cinema. Devayani was the rising star. For Ninaithen Vandhai (1998), the director paired them specifically because he wanted a fresh, non-masala couple — Charle's everyman vibe against Devayani's intensity. It was their first film together and it bombed hard.
• In Pudhumai Pithan (1998), Charle played a mentally unstable man. Devayani had to anchor every scene — she set the emotional pace while he improvised the erratic behavior. She later said in an interview that she had to 'hold his hand through the takes' to keep the scenes grounded.
• After Thenkasi Pattanam (2002) flopped, Charle and Devayani never worked together again. But they stayed in touch. Charle once revealed that Devayani called him before every major career move she made, asking for his opinion — even after she became a bigger star.
