• Vanisri was the bigger star when they first paired up for Uyarndha Manidhan (1968). Sowcar Janaki was cast as the second lead. But Janaki's performance was so powerful that the director rewrote the climax to give her a bigger emotional payoff.
• In Kuzhandhai Ullam (1969), Vanisri played the mother and Sowcar Janaki played the villain. Janaki deliberately underplayed her scenes so Vanisri's maternal anguish would hit harder. She later told a magazine: 'I knew if I went loud, the audience would hate me, not feel for her.'
• During the shoot of Nangu Suvargal (1971), Vanisri was going through a messy divorce. Sowcar Janaki would pick her up every morning, drive her to the set, and stay with her in the makeup room between shots. They never spoke about it publicly.
• Sowcar Janaki once said: 'Vanisri was the only co-star who made me forget I was acting. When she cried, I cried for real. That's dangerous for an actress, but I couldn't help it.'
• Their pairing in Uyarndha Manidhan (1968) directly inspired director K. Balachander to cast two strong female leads in his next film — a rarity in Tamil cinema at the time. He later admitted he was 'jealous of the tension they created on screen.'
