• Ramki and Ponnambalam first faced off in Vetri Padigal (1991). The director cast Ponnambalam specifically to be a towering physical threat for Ramki's hero — their fight scenes in that film became the template for every villain-hero brawl in low-budget Tamil actioners for the next five years.
• In Vetri Padigal, Ponnambalam never spoke more than two lines in any scene with Ramki. The director realized Ponnambalam's silent, looming presence made Ramki's punches land harder — so they kept him almost mute, letting his size do the acting while Ramki did all the talking and fighting.
• By the time they made Sri Raja Rajeshwari (2001), Ramki and Ponnambalam were close enough that Ramki personally requested Ponnambalam for the villain role. Ponnambalam agreed without even reading the script — he just said yes because Ramki asked.
