• Director Rajarathnam cast Saranya and Robo Shankar together for the first time in 'Mannar Vagera' (2017) because he wanted a mother-son duo that could switch between comedy and emotion without missing a beat. He wrote the role of 'Mannar' specifically for Shankar after seeing his stand-up timing.
• In 'Jeyikkira Kuthira' (2017), Saranya would deliberately flub her lines during rehearsals to throw Robo Shankar off-script. He had to improvise every take, which gave their scenes a raw, unpredictable energy that the director kept in the final cut.
