• Hari was a newcomer director when he cast Charlie in Thamizh (2002). Charlie was already a popular comedian, but Hari took a risk by giving him a full-length comic role that wasn't just sidekick material. That film put both their names on the map together.
• In Kovil (2004), Hari wrote a specific comedy track where Charlie's character had to react silently to a dramatic situation. Charlie improvised most of those reactions on set, and Hari kept the camera rolling. That scene is still quoted by Tamil audiences.
• During the shoot of Ayya (2005), Charlie's father passed away. Hari shut down production for a week and personally handled all the funeral arrangements so Charlie could grieve. They never spoke about it publicly.
• The success of Vel (2007) directly led to Hari casting Charlie in his next film, which launched a new trend of pairing a mass hero with a comedian who had his own emotional arc. Several directors copied that template in the following years.
• Charlie once said in an interview: 'Hari is the only director who let me be the hero of my own comedy track. He never cut my scenes short.'
• In Venghai (2011), Hari deliberately wrote a scene where Charlie's character had to deliver a serious monologue about family honor. Charlie had never done that before. Hari rehearsed it with him for two hours before the take. It's the only time Charlie cried on screen in their films together.
