• Mahesh Bhatt cast Naseeruddin Shah in 'Sir' (1993) after watching him play a ruthless cop in a TV serial. Bhatt wanted an actor who could switch from cold to vulnerable in one close-up. Naseer said yes without reading the full script.
• On the set of 'Naajayaz' (1995), Naseeruddin Shah would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery in confrontational scenes. He told Bhatt it made Mahesh Bhatt's character look more impatient and dangerous. Bhatt loved it and kept the pauses in the final cut.
• The success of 'Sir' (1993) directly led to Bhatt producing 'Naajayaz' (1995) with the same lead pair. That film then launched Ajay Devgn as a serious action star — Devgn's first major hit after 'Phool Aur Kaante'.
