• Sridevi was already a huge star in the South when she signed 'Naya Kadam' (1984). Om Shivpuri was a veteran character actor. The director, N. Chandra, deliberately paired them to give Sridevi a strong, father-figure co-star who wouldn't overshadow her — he wanted the audience to focus entirely on her.
• In 'Pathar Ke Insan' (1990), Om Shivpuri played Sridevi's father. Their scenes together had a quiet, restrained rhythm — Shivpuri would underplay every line, forcing Sridevi to dial down her usual high-energy style. She later said that working with him taught her to act with her eyes, not her hands.
• Om Shivpuri was a trained theatre actor from the National School of Drama. On the sets of 'Nazrana' (1987), he would spend lunch breaks coaching Sridevi on diction and breath control — she spoke Hindi with a strong Tamil accent, and he helped her soften it without losing her natural charm.
