• They first shared screen space in Naseeb (1981) because Manmohan Desai needed a fresh pair for a song sequence. Hema was already a superstar; Rishi was the hot young lead. Desai literally threw them together for 'John Jani Janardhan' — and the public loved it so much that producers started casting them as a pair.
• In Ek Chadar Maili Si (1986), Rishi played a mentally unstable man obsessed with Hema's character. The film was a dark, rural drama — a total departure from their usual glamorous roles. Rishi later admitted he had to push Hema to get raw and uncomfortable on set because she was used to controlled, choreographed performances.
• Despite making five films together over 30 years, Hema and Rishi were never close friends off-screen. They were professional, polite, and did their jobs. Rishi once joked in an interview that Hema was 'too disciplined' for his chaotic energy — they never hung out after pack-up.
