• Naseeruddin Shah was the one who suggested Madhuri Dixit for the role of the dancer in Tridev (1989). He had seen her in Tezaab and told director Rajiv Rai she'd bring the glamour the film needed. Rai agreed, and that's how their first pairing happened.
• On the set of Rajkumar (1996), Naseeruddin deliberately underplayed his comic villain role to let Madhuri's energy dominate every scene they shared. He later said he knew the audience came for her, so he stepped back and fed her lines in a way that made her look sharper.
• Their only film that actually worked at the box office was Tridev (1989). It launched the trend of multi-starrer action films with item numbers — and Madhuri's 'Oye Oye' became the blueprint for every 90s dance number that followed.
• Naseeruddin and Madhuri never became close friends. He found her shy and reserved; she found him intimidating. On the sets of Gaja Gamini (2000), they barely spoke beyond their lines. Madhuri later admitted she was too scared to even ask him for acting advice.
• Naseeruddin Shah said about Madhuri after Dedh Ishqiya (2014): 'She is the only actress I've worked with who can make you forget your lines just by looking at you. I had to concentrate hard not to get distracted.'
