• Shabana Azmi personally recommended Madhuri Dixit for the lead in 'Dharavi' (1992). She told director Sudhir Mishra that Madhuri had the raw intensity the role needed, even though Madhuri was already a mainstream star by then.
• On the set of 'Mrityudand' (1997), Shabana would deliberately break the rhythm of her dialogue delivery to throw Madhuri off guard. Madhuri later said this forced her to stay fully present in the scene instead of relying on rehearsed beats.
