• Director K. Shankar was initially hesitant to cast Rajesh opposite K. R. Vijaya in 'Mel Maruvathoor Athiparasakthi' (1985) because he thought Rajesh's urban image wouldn't fit a rural goddess film. Vijaya personally insisted, saying Rajesh had the right devotional sincerity.
• On the sets of 'Aayiram Kannudayaal' (1986), Vijaya would quietly correct Rajesh's dialogue delivery in emotional scenes — she felt he rushed his lines. Rajesh later admitted he learned to pause and let silence land because of her.
