• Shafi Inamdar was a TV star from 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi' when Rishi Kapoor — already a huge film name — specifically asked for him as co-lead in 'Pahunchey Huwe Log' (1986). Rishi wanted a fresh comic foil, not another film hero.
• In 'Inteha Pyar Ki' (1992), Rishi played the intense romantic lead while Shafi played the comic sidekick. But Shafi kept improvising one-liners on set that made Rishi break character mid-scene — the director had to do multiple retakes just because Rishi couldn't stop laughing.
• Rishi and Shafi stayed close after the films. When Shafi fell seriously ill in the late 1990s, Rishi quietly paid for his medical treatment without telling the press. Shafi's family confirmed this years later.
