Partnership facts

• Rishi Kapoor personally recommended Asrani for the role of his friend in 'Yeh Ishq Nahin Aasaan' (1984). The director was unsure, but Rishi insisted Asrani would bring the comic timing the script needed.
• In 'Inteha Pyar Ki' (1992), Asrani improvised a whole scene where he tries to stop Rishi from jumping off a cliff. Rishi later said Asrani's ad-libs made him laugh so hard they had to reshoot three times.
• During the shoot of 'Gurudev' (1993), Rishi and Asrani shared a vanity van because the budget was tight. They spent hours playing cards between takes, and Asrani taught Rishi a card trick he still used at parties years later.
• Asrani once said in an interview: 'Rishi was the only hero who treated me like a co-star, not a sidekick. He'd ask my opinion on his scenes. That never happened with anyone else.'
• The comic duo of Rishi and Asrani in 'Yeh Ishq Nahin Aasaan' (1984) inspired a minor trend in mid-80s Bollywood: pairing a romantic lead with a middle-aged comic sidekick who wasn't a buffoon. At least two other films copied the template the same year.
