• Vinay Pathak was a theatre director before he acted. Rajat Kapoor saw him in a play and insisted he audition for a small role in his film Mixed Doubles (2006). That audition led to Bheja Fry — and Vinay ended up playing the lead instead.
• On the sets of Dasvidaniya (2008), Rajat would deliberately break character mid-scene to make Vinay laugh. Vinay says that forced him to stay sharp — because if he broke, the take was ruined. That tension became their comic rhythm.
• Bheja Fry (2007) was the film that proved a two-hander comedy with no songs and no stars could work in Hindi cinema. It directly inspired a wave of small-budget buddy comedies — including the later hit Vicky Donor (2012), whose writer-director Juhi Chaturvedi has cited Bheja Fry as a reference.
• They never signed a contract for any of their five films together. Every deal was a handshake. Rajat once said, 'If Vinay says yes, I don't even ask about dates. I just write the next scene.'
• Vinay Pathak, in a 2018 interview: 'Rajat is the only director who lets me be completely stupid on screen. Other directors say, “Vinay, control.” Rajat says, “Go more stupid.” That’s why I trust him blindly.'
