• T. Rajendar cast Senthamarai in Mythili Ennai Kaathali (1986) after seeing her in a stage play. He later said he wrote the role specifically for her voice — she had a unique, husky delivery that he felt no other actress could match.
• On the sets of Oru Thayin Sabhatham (1987), Senthamarai would often improvise her lines in village dialect. Rajendar, who directed and acted, would then rewrite his own dialogues on the spot to match her rhythm. The film's most famous scene — a mother-daughter confrontation — was entirely improvised this way.
• During the shoot of En Thangai (1989), Senthamarai's father passed away. Rajendar paused production for two weeks, paid for the funeral, and refused to let her return to set until she was ready. She later called him 'the brother I never had' in a 1990 magazine interview.
• The success of Mythili Ennai Kaathali (1986) directly led to Rajendar launching his own production banner. He used the profits from that film to fund his next project — which was not a Senthamarai film, but a vehicle for a new actor he wanted to push. That actor? His son, Silambarasan (then a child artist).
• Senthamarai once told a fan magazine: 'Rajendar sir would make me do 20 takes of the same scene. I'd get angry. Then I'd see the final cut and realize he was right every single time. He saw something in my face that I didn't know was there.'
• In Oru Thayin Sabhatham (1987), Rajendar deliberately gave Senthamarai the longest monologue in the film — a 7-minute single-shot scene. He told the crew he wanted to 'test her stamina.' She nailed it in one take. He never gave her a short scene again.
