• David Dhawan cast Anil Kapoor in 'Andaz' (1994) only after his first choice, Salman Khan, walked out due to date issues. Anil stepped in at the last minute, and the film became their first hit together.
• On the sets of 'Loafer' (1996), Anil Kapoor would deliberately overact in the first take so David Dhawan could yell 'cut' and then ask him to tone it down. This became their unspoken routine — Anil would push the energy, David would pull it back to the right pitch.
• The success of 'Biwi No.1' (1999) directly inspired David Dhawan to make 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' (2000) with Salman Khan, using the same formula of a rich guy chasing a middle-class girl. That film then launched the career of Karisma Kapoor's sister, Raveena Tandon's co-star — but the template was set by Anil and David.
• David Dhawan and Anil Kapoor never had a formal contract for any of their five films. They shook hands on each project, and David would start shooting with just a one-line idea. Anil trusted him blindly — even when 'Deewana Mastana' (1997) had no complete script on day one.
• David Dhawan once said in an interview: 'Anil is the only actor who would call me at 2 AM to discuss a comedy scene. He treated every joke like a dramatic climax. That's why our films worked — he gave comedy the same respect as tragedy.'
• In 'Gharwali Baharwali' (1998), Anil Kapoor improvised the entire 'Mujhe kya pata' dialogue sequence on the spot. David Dhawan kept the camera rolling and later said that take was the only one they used — because Anil's timing was so perfect, they couldn't replicate it.
