• Dharmesh Darshan cast Akshay Kumar in Dhadkan (2000) only after Shah Rukh Khan turned down the role. Akshay was his second choice, but the director later admitted Akshay brought a raw intensity that SRK wouldn't have.
• On the sets of Dhadkan, Dharmesh Darshan pushed Akshay to drop his usual action-hero swagger and play the vulnerable lover with a stammer. Akshay later said the director made him 'act with his eyes, not his fists' for the first time.
