• They first shared screen space in Housefull 2 (2012) because Sajid Khan wanted a fresh comic pair to bounce off Akshay Kumar. Riteish was already a comedy staple, but John had to be convinced — he wasn't sure he could do slapstick. Riteish personally called him and said, 'Just trust the script, I'll handle the timing.'
• In Housefull 4 (2019), Riteish played the comic sidekick to John's straight-laced hero in the past-life segments. The trick was simple: John delivered every line deadpan, and Riteish reacted with exaggerated panic. John later said in an interview, 'He makes me look funny without me trying. I just stand there and he does the work.'
• Their pairing in Dostana 2 (2017) was supposed to launch a new buddy-cop franchise for Dharma Productions. The film was shot but never released — shelved after a script rewrite. Because of that, no Hindi film has ever attempted a male-bonding comedy with a bodybuilder and a goofball as leads since. The template died with that unreleased film.
• On the sets of Housefull 2, John and Riteish discovered they both shared a love for vintage motorcycles. They spent every Sunday of the shoot riding together from Film City to Lonavala. Riteish later gifted John a restored 1972 Royal Enfield Bullet after the film wrapped — John still owns it.
• Riteish on John during a 2019 promotional interview: 'He is the only co-star who can make me laugh without saying a word. He just looks at me with that serious face and I break. We had to do 17 takes of one scene in Housefull 4 because I couldn't stop giggling.'
