• They first met on the set of Dil Kya Kare (1999), but Mahima almost didn't get the role. Ajay had already signed on, and the producers wanted a bigger name opposite him. Mahima auditioned three times before Ajay personally told the director, 'She's the one.'
• In Deewane (2000), Ajay played a double role — one a romantic hero, the other a psychotic killer. Mahima later said in an interview that Ajay would switch between the two characters so fast on set that she'd forget which one she was reacting to. She had to ask the director, 'Which Ajay am I talking to right now?'
• During the shoot of Lajja (2001), Mahima was going through a rough personal patch. Ajay would drive her home after every night shoot, even if his own scene was done. She later called him 'the most quietly protective co-star I've ever had.'
• Mahima once said about Ajay: 'He never gave me a single acting tip. He just acted opposite me, and I learned everything by watching his eyes.' She said this in a 2005 interview with Filmfare.
• Their pairing in LOC Kargil (2003) was the only romantic subplot in a war film that had no songs. The director, J.P. Dutta, specifically wrote that track for them because he felt their 'quiet intensity' could carry a love story without music. No other pair in the film got that treatment.
• After Zameer: The Fire Within (2005) bombed, they never worked together again. But Mahima still sends Ajay a birthday text every year. Ajay once joked at a press meet, 'She's the only co-star who remembers my birthday before my wife does.'
