Partnership facts

• Senthil was a stage actor with zero film experience when V. Gopalakrishnan cast him in Nalla Naal (1984). Gopalakrishnan saw him in a play and decided to build the film's comedy track around a newcomer — a huge gamble that paid off.
• On the sets of Sirai Paravai (1987), Gopalakrishnan would write dialogue in the morning and hand it to Senthil, who then improvised half the lines on the spot. The director never said 'cut' — he let Senthil run until the scene naturally died.
• The success of Shankar Guru (1987) directly led to Gopalakrishnan launching a separate comedy track in every subsequent film — a trend that other Tamil directors copied for the next decade.
• After Oor Mariyadhai (1992) bombed, Gopalakrishnan stopped calling Senthil for new projects. Senthil later said in a 2010 interview that he never got a reason — the director just vanished from his life. They never worked together again.
