Partnership facts

• Suresh was a newcomer when director Gangai Amaran cast him opposite Viji in 'Kozhi Koovudhu' (1982). Viji, already a known face, specifically asked for a fresh male lead — she didn't want to repeat old pairings. That one request launched Suresh's career.
• In 'Valarthakada' (1983), Viji's natural comic timing forced Suresh to speed up his dialogue delivery. He later admitted in an interview that she made him drop his theatrical pauses and talk like a real person. That film is where his rhythm changed for good.
• After 'Veetla Visheshanga' (1994), Suresh and Viji never worked together again. No fight, no fallout — Viji simply quit acting to focus on her family. Suresh said years later that he still calls her 'akka' and that she was the only co-star who ever cooked for him on set.
• Suresh once told a fan magazine: 'Viji akka taught me how to react without words. In 'Kozhi Koovudhu', she would do a tiny eyebrow movement and I'd forget my lines. She made me a better actor by making me nervous.'
• The success of 'Kozhi Koovudhu' directly led to Gangai Amaran casting the same lead pair in 'Valarthakada' the next year. That film's village-comedy template was later copied by at least three low-budget Tamil films in the late 80s — none of which matched the original's box office.
