• Harmesh Malhotra cast Shatrughan Sinha in Choron Ki Baaraat (1980) after the actor's villain roles had made him a bankable star. Malhotra needed a tough lead who could also dance — and Shatrughan's signature swagger in the climax fight sequence became the film's biggest talking point.
• On the set of Dharam Shatru (1988), Shatrughan would rewrite his own dialogues in red ink on the morning of the shoot. Harmesh Malhotra let him do it because the actor's punchlines got the crew laughing — and the final cut kept most of those rewrites.
• After Dharam Shatru flopped, the two didn't speak for nearly 35 years. They only reunited for Hum Mein Shahenshah Koun (2026) because Shatrughan's son asked Malhotra to direct a comeback vehicle for his father — and Malhotra agreed on one condition: no rewrites on set.
• Harmesh Malhotra once said in a 1989 interview: 'Shatrughan doesn't act — he attacks the camera. I just had to point it at him and stay out of the way.'
• The fight choreography in Choron Ki Baaraat (1980) — where Shatrughan fights four goons using a dupatta — was directly copied by a 1990s TV serial 'Junoon'. The director of that serial later admitted he replayed the scene 20 times to study the timing.
